Most AI advice gets written for a different planet. It assumes a big market, a big team, and a budget that can absorb a failed experiment. None of that describes a business on Curaçao.
TECHMEETUPS.CW exists to translate AI into island reality instead: a team of three, a budget that has to work the first time, customers who switch between four languages in one sentence, and a founder who is also the salesperson, the bookkeeper, and the one answering support tickets at midnight. The advice has to survive contact with that reality or it is not advice, it is theory.
The annual conference. Two days.
Day one is BUILD. Hands-on sessions where people leave with something working, not a slide deck full of ideas they will never open again.
Day two is PRESENT, held at the heart of the island’s institutions, where the year’s best work gets shown to the room that can actually act on it. Editions have run since 2018, and every single one has been bigger than the last: more speakers, more registrations, more sponsors willing to put their name behind it.

Talking about AI on an island is easy. Anyone can do a panel. TECHMEETUPS.CW went further: the community itself is hosted by an AI.
Anara Martina welcomes new members, answers their questions, and speaks Papiamentu the way a true Yu’i Kòrsou speaks it, not translated, not stiff, actually native to the island’s rhythm. She is not a gimmick bolted onto the community. She is the proof that the message being taught is being lived first.
The community stays a community.
Partners get one rule before anything else: contribute first. Knowledge, a venue, mentorship, time, whatever they actually have to offer, and the commercial conversation waits until after that has been given, not before.
That ordering is the entire reason this stays the most trusted room in the island’s tech scene. The moment a sponsor treats the community like a captive audience for a pitch, the room notices, and trust like that does not come back once it is spent.

Adric Walter opens and keynotes every annual conference personally, curates the speaker list himself, and is the one who picks up the phone to bring the international guests over. That part of the job does not get delegated.
What does get delegated, deliberately, is the daily rhythm. The community runs itself between editions: local organizers, recurring meetups, the WhatsApp groups that never go quiet. A founder who has to run every single day of a community personally has not built a community. He has built a dependency.
